I was surprised to see the lights were still on at the GRR house when I arrived. I was angry to see Clive’s car was also in the driveway. I parked my car and stormed into the house. Athena was lying on a couch in the library. She looked at me and then looked toward the kitchen. I nodded my thanks and then stalked into the kitchen. Clive was sitting in there with a laptop while Dr. Wharton was working over a pot of coffee. Neither of them even noticed my entrance. The Advisor nearly dropped the two coffee mugs she had poured when she turned around and saw me glaring at her. “Darwin! You frightened twenty years off me!”

Clive turned toward me and gave a bleary-eyed smile. “I was wondering when you would finally get here.”

“And I was wondering why you were here to begin with,” I snapped. “You should be asleep in your dorm room! What if someone saw you come in here?”

Clive shrugged his shoulders. “What if someone saw me come in here?”

“Then you’d make yourself another target for Finn! He’s a Fenrir!” It didn’t even occur to me I had been completely unaware of what a Fenrir was just a few minutes earlier. I was so tired and confused and frustrated that I didn’t have the strength left to remember that not everyone could read my mind.

Dr. Wharton, who had turned around to pour a third cup of coffee, obviously knew what I was talking about. “A Fenrir?” she gasped. “Oh no!” She placed one mug of coffee on the table next to Clive and nearly threw one at me. “I must go speak to Athena about this.” She ran out of the kitchen at a speed greater than anyone should be able to achieve at that time of night.

Clive still looked confused, so I sat down and forced myself to explain everything I knew so far. The coffee kicked in pretty quickly so Clive was able to follow my explanation better than I thought I was explaining it. “So you and Marshall are worried I might be a new target for this Finn character just so that he can stir up a little bit more chaos. I’ll try to remember that.” He turned toward his laptop. “The translation programs don’t exactly love the runes that some of the Norse mythology is written in, but I will see what I can find. I’d bet the Fenrirs are also the source of werewolf and Big Bad Wolf stories. I’ll see if there is anything mentioned that we can use to our advantage.”

“Well let me know as soon as you find something.” Another thought occurred to me that almost sent me into a panic. “He may try to go after Eric, too!”

Clive looked at me like I might have lost a few marbles. “You do know you just met him tonight, right? I doubt Finn will make much of a connection between the two of you.” Clive’s words were completely logical, but they just barely penetrated my haze of panic.
